Milan and Zurich are both easy to fly into/out of, with a train that runs in between them, making that aspect easy too. I will be going to lake Orta in Italy, and Lucerne in Switzerland, so I'll get to see a little more than just industrialized cities. But both Milan and Zurich have a great deal of history within then and plenty to see.
