If you find a chunk that has some prospecting info for it, Check the chunk north, south, east, and west of that first chunk. Then keep going to find the highest concentration you can. If you can swing 900 units, a bronze anvil is the hardest (hehe) requirement to be able to create iron tools if you keep your bronze pick in your pocket till you find some of the iron ores. Plus or minus your luck in fireclay but I've found a few deposits before I ever came close to bronze.

There is a much easier way. What I do is check every good cave entrance I find with a prospecting pick. If the readings for what I'm looking for are high, I explore the cave. This has been very effective for me. I have easily found cassiterite and iron this way on multiple saves. Since when you explore, you'll naturally find lots of cave entrances.It will give readings like: no ores nearby, trace, small, large, etc amounts. This is the part that is tricky and takes time to master. The propick has scanned a cube 17 blocks across to look for ores. Say you get a reading that says trace amounts.
