WHAT IS A RUBRIC? Although definitions for the word “rubric” abound, for the purposes of this feature article we use the word to denote a type of matrix that provides scaled levels of achievement or understanding for a set of criteria or dimensions of quality for a given type of performance, for example, a paper, an oral presentation, or use of teamwork skills.
The VALUE Rubrics are meta-rubrics sponsored by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) and reflect expectations for the AAC&U Essential Learning Outcomes (LEAP project).
