Dec 9, 2016 · Stanford claims that it is their philosophy to defer as few applicants as possible, and this is certainly true looking at last year’s REA admission statistics as only 9% of REA applicants were deferred. This is much lower than Ivy League universities like Harvard which deferred 75% of REA applicants last year.

They try to make final decisions wherever possible, so the probability of getting in in the RD round will be significantly higher than other applicants. Still not a slam dunk, of course.
