I've seen them countles of times in the radar info (see rare enemies around you), and even with potion to sense the enemies around me I've been unable to find them. Biome mimics do get damaged by lava, I've had them occasionally spawn in lava and just wait till they're low health then attack them (in early hard mode) I just set up traps and lava to shoot them to get them low but its the need to wait I was trying to avoid. I might still be able to afk them, just not as fast.

Google is your friend. Make a looong bridge (if you made a hellbridge you can use that), get a mount with at least 41mph (horses from zoologist might help if you don't have hardmode mounts). Summon the Mimic, then run to a side non-stop, and shoot. Hallowed Mimic won't be able to reach you.
