The KU Common Book program is a campus-wide initiative to engage students, faculty, and staff across the university. A new book is selected each year that fosters critical thinking, and generates opportunities for shared experiences and conversation about topics and issues of significance in today's world. Recommendations can be submitted via the online nomination form through September 17.Description: Substance use and addiction are prevalent in contemporary society and cut across all segments of the population. Drug use plays a significant role in the 2023-2024 KU Common Book, Parable of the Sower, and the behaviors and associations of those participating in substance use reflect the perspectives of the characters in the novel. KU Common Book will promote community and academic engagement through discussions of a common reading experience among faculty, staff, and students.
