Flashing cruise light subaru forester
Flashing X-Mode & Cruise Control icons with solid Engine Check light popped up "out of nowhere". I went straight for the gas cap and discovered I'd driven 130 miles with the cap completely loose. The resulting vapor problem must have triggered the fault.The cruise control is disabled when there's a CEL... a Subaru safety thing. :frown: The CEL code needs to be read to start the trouble shooting. Most auto parts stores will read the code for free. :wink: If CEL is on solid, a code is stored. If the CEL is flashing, that would be serious, as the malfunction is happening "now"! :icon_eek:

I'm not sure what year car you have, but on my 05XT the cruise control light would blink when I had a fault code stored in the ECU, presumably one that prevents cruise from operating. Last time i had this it was an o2 sensor related code and issue, easily solved, but I can't find any info on a 0048 ...BTW, when the Check Engine Light comes on, the cruise control light generally starts flashing (and the cruise control stops working). The problem almost certainly has nothing to do with the cruise - it's just something extra Subaru tossed in.
