I think the original barrel has been cut down and the original stock nicely shortened. Barrel is 22 inches long. Military sights have been replaced with modern sights. This is a fairer comparison than with the Spanish Model 93 Mauser, which supposedly bested the Krag in the Spanish-American war. I still give the 1891 an edge over the Krag, but it is arguable.
