There is a air intake heater used on the 7.3L California version. It is located between the inter-cooler and the intake manifold. It is controlled by a relay next to the fuel filter. To some folks not familiar with the CA emission system, they think it is the glow plug relay. Controlled and monitored by the PCM.

The second brown thing back it is either a glow plug relay or the intake air heater relay. It is smoking and hot to the touch (on the brass post and overall). I know there is power to the heater just need to test the heater to make sure it is working correctly. Thanks for your time.

Glad I did it. 08 2500 6.7 auto grey, 5" TBE, mega flow s-3 intake, throttle valve deleted, erg,cooler,ccv and grid heater deleted.

Well the intake heater is a grid in the intake manifold. There is a solenoid mounted near the top of the intake manifold. Check those connections and the connection at the grid. You will have power at one of the main bigger studs all the time on it.
